St. Mary Parish, Manchester at 210 West Main Street, Manchester, MI 48158 US - Update on Maintenance Issues

Update on Maintenance Issues

CEMENT WORK ON CHURCH & RECTORY STEPS
The concrete work on the church and rectory steps has been completed. The work was done by a local man, Richard Tucker. Mr. Tucker did a wonderful job at repairing all three sets of steps. He was meticulous in his work and in making the new concrete match the ‘old’ concrete. The work took nearly two months. My hope is that this repair work will hold for years to come. With Michigan winters and the frequent use of chemical ice removers this causes great wear on any concrete.

The final cost of the concrete work was $12,189. The break down is as follows: Church-front steps: $6,817; Church-back steps: $3,190; and the Rectory steps: $2,182. The money for these projects came from the funds donated to the monthly gold envelope collection.

RECTORY PORCH
Now that the rectory steps have been repaired there is a need for handrails to be added in order to assist people up the steps to the parish office. The rails are being specially made and will be at a height that is up to current building codes. The six pillars that hold up the front porch roof will be replaced with fiberglass columns. The ceiling of the porch will be slightly lowered and covered with vinyl siding. The cost of these improvements will be paid for by the money that was donated in memory of Lorraine McLaughlin and should be completed by the end of the summer.

PAINTING OF OUTSIDE OF CHURCH
It has been many years since the trim work, eaves, doors, handrails, and bell tower louvers have been painted. I am seeking a bid for this project. I am also acquiring a bid to repaint the church sign, the statue of Our Lady of Grace above the main entrance as well as the six crosses on the church. If the bid is reasonable we will go ahead with the work. The painting should be able to be done in the fall. The funding for the project will come from the gold envelope collection. I encourage your support of the gold envelope so that we may be able to continue to do the work that needs to be done to maintain our parish buildings.

—Fr. Tim
